For many of your children, homework is nothing new. Most kindergarten teachers assigned homework several times per week (or more) to begin to teach children the importance of practicing skills away from school. In first grade, your child will have homework every night.

Please check your child’s agenda for daily homework assignments. It is important for students to take responsibility for their assignments so they are required to record the daily homework assignment themselves in their agendas. I know that first graders will not always copy the correct information, especially spelling words. Therefore, I will provide a sheet with directions or spelling words in the homework folder. Although I provide this, I encourage you to discuss assignments in the agenda with your child to reinforce the importance of recording assignments correctly.
